Old Town Alexandria Press is a publishing company that had its roots in “King Street News,” a 2,000 square feet newsstand that was located at 821 King Street in the heart of Historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. It was established in 1986. The business was based on the concept of a global newsstand that would cater to this “Think-tank” area. We carried as many publications as possible, including very progressive as well as conservative viewpoints. The original goal was to bring offbeat publications to the Washington, D.C. area, and bring much needed information to the public, especially alternative, educational, and business titles.

Two years later, in 1988 it was the largest newsstand in the country, with over 4,500 magazines, fanzines, alternative publications and poetry in stock. But with the recession of the late eighties and the ever increasing cost of rent-- and more importantly, the internet revolution that was achieving some of the same goals-- the newsstand was sold to a new owner. However, the resurgent Old town Alexandria Press now is devoted to bringing alternative ideas through their press!
